Helping Your Agent
Once your home is listed for sale, it is often difficult for the
homeowner to step aside and let your agent take over. When
prospective buyers arrive, you may want to stand by to point out all
the little "extras" that you have put into your home (energy-saving
storm windows, upgraded carpet or new screens, etc.)
If you really want to help, however, you will leave the house whenever
it is being shown! The prospective buyer must (in their mind) be able
to "take possession" of your home. The buyer will see their furniture
in your home; they see themselves cooking in your kitchen... They will
take possession in their mind. If the homeowner is in the home during
a showing, the prospective buyer will never "Take possession", and
often your home will not sell - due to the possessive nature of the
home seller.
Real Estate Professionals are trained to show and sell your home. If
a seller is standing at the agent's elbow, the buyer won't be
comfortable enough to let this process take place, and we could lose
the sale. The best way to help is to give us the room to do our job.
